Old Town Bike Parking
Dear Alexandria,
Since you took out the parking meters in Old Town several months ago for the new multispace meters, there are a lot fewer places to lock one's bike up to along King Street. Can you fix this?
Did you ever hear back? I emailed last week with the same question (and pointed out that a new restaurant on King Street huddled their outdoor tables and chairs around one of the only bike racks for blocks....and left them out there even when closed, so the bike rack was permanently blocked). Never heard back.
Only thing that's changed is that the rack has now been completely removed. Probably by the City. Emailed someone else today, no reply either.
Never did hear back, though I plan on bouncing it directly off the city's bike/ped coordinator and the BPAC before I leave town (along with a laundry list of other items).
I got a little (or a lot) passive aggressive and sent it over their heads and surprise! Got instant responses. I'd sent it to the generic "local motion" address and the bike person. Then I waited a week and sent it to Yon Lambert.
They never did tell me what happened (but I'd still like to know) but they acknowledged the existance of an "issue" with that restaurant. I still don't know if it was the city or the restaurant who removed it. The did say that more bike parking along King, specifically those few blocks, is in the plan. I'm not holding my breath, though.
I have decided, though, that I'm not going to go to that restaurant, and have told my friends the same.
